Knowing why an interviewer is asking a question will help you give a great answer that highlights why YOU are the right candidate for the job. Job Interview Questions And Answers members have exclusive access to answering guides for every question revealing why the interviewer is asking each question and what they want to hear.

Why are you seeking a new job? Example answer:

I’ve worked with ABC & Co for three years. During that time I’ve achieved all of the goals I set myself and I’ve enjoyed every minute. Now, however, my aspirations extend beyond those of ABC & Co. I would like to tackle a new challenge in a different environment.

Whatever it is about your career that, on reflection, needs an explanation, volunteer the information. If you werewith one firm for 30 years, it cries out for an explanation. If you have had five jobs in the past five years, you need to explain that, too. But, keep it short and keep it positive.Focus on the knowledge you gained. Focus on your ability tomanage people and situations. These are the skills that anyrational employer wants and needs. Just as Ricky Ricardowould tell Lucy, “You got some ’splaining to do.”

Be smart and address obvious issues head-on so they inno way diminish the valuable time you have in an interview. When you get that far, it is a shame to blow it.
